Douglas Outdoors is a comparatively young manufacturer and was founded in 2014 in New York State, USA. With the Sky G series - the top models from Douglas, the manufacturer has established itself in the fly fishing scene worldwide in just a short time, which is due to the outstanding rod blanks, the use of the highest quality components for guides, handle and reel seat as well as perfect craftmanship - by the way made in Korea.
In various "shootouts" done by American fly shops, the Sky G models take the top spots in ranking, which was one of the reasons for us to add this rod series to our range. Because we also love light, perfectly balanced, sensitive fly rods with the appropriate power reserves combined with top components and accurate workmanship. We cast and fish these rods ourselves and can only agree to the ranking results of the Yellowstone Angler or Trident Fly Fishing.

Within the Sky G rod series, Douglas has now released 3 new 10' models in line class #2 - #4, which we have named Sky G Nymph to distinguish them from the allround freshwater rods. The models show their strengths in all areas of modern nymph fishing in particular, although these rods can also greatly be used for fine dry fly fishing. But most will use these models more for various Euro-Nymphing techniques and they are perfectly made for that with outstanding features.

Of course, the 10 foot long blanks also leverage technology in its quest to achieve fly rod perfection. These rods are wonderfully lightweight and eminently castable, and the addition of revolutionary G-Tec platelets takes them over the top. Altogether, you'll find the Sky G Nymph series offers superb dampening and recovery, near-effortless casting, accuracy, and outstanding durability. Innovative top-of-the-line components include: REC Titanium Cerecoil stripper guides with zirconia inserts, REC Titanium recoil guides, AAAA flor grade cork, a skeletonized aluminum reel seat with burled blackwood insert and double uplocking rings with nylon bushings. The Nymph models also feature a small fighting butt at the end of the reel seat.

The matt, platinum-colored blank of the G-Series is manufactured on the basis of G-Tec graphite technology. The advantages of graphene mean extremely low weight with maximum durability. The combination of speed and sensitivity is particularly positive. The swing weight of the Douglas Sky G rods is incredibly low, which is even more important with longer fly rods. You can now balance these lightweight 10ft Sky-G rods with a much lighter fly reel.

Our own conclusion: Perfect Euro-Nymphing rods, also ideal for fine dry fly fishing because they are extremely sensitive. Ingenious blank taper for extra "feel" and quick strikes. However thanks to the blank's high dampening properties you won't break even the thinnest leader tips easily during the fight with the fish. The greatest advantage lies in the low rod weight and swing weight, which allows the combination with much lighter fly reels. An unbelievable advantage, especially when "high-sticking" with an outstretched arm, as you tire less. Unrivaled with all these qualities, also thanks to an an unbeaten price-performance ratio.
