The timing for Andy's fly-fishing trip to the Caribbean from November 20th to 30th, 2025, to celebrate his company's 25th anniversary, couldn't have been better. The first real cold snap, with temperatures dropping to -15°C here in the foothills of the Alps, arrived just as they were leaving. In contrast, everyone was greeted by tropical, sunny weather and temperatures between 26 and 28°C upon arrival in Cancun. And this continued in Ascension Bay, except for one day with some rain and wind. The ideal weather rewarded the participants with wonderful catches. Besides numerous bonefish, baby tarpon , and good sized snooks , as well as jacks and snappers, there were even a total of four permits caught! Anyone who has fished in saltwater knows how difficult it is to catch permit on a fly, and there were plenty of opportunities for large permits up to 40 pounds! It's just that they usually don't take the fly at the last moment. Therefore, catching a palometa of approximately 17 pounds was the absolute highlight of the trip for one of the participants . But everyone else also caught some beautiful fish and had a fantastic time, as Andy's group got along wonderfully. The Punta Allen Fishing Club provided everyone with excellent accommodation in a relaxed atmosphere, very good food, and perfect organization and service. The guides at this lodge were top-notch! All the flights and transfers went smoothly as well. It was an unforgettable trip for everyone, one that couldn't have gone better. Calls for a repeat!

As every year, the season concludes with a trip to the Ybbs river in lower Austria. The same participants join this journey every year, and this time they were able to enjoy two golden October days on this gin-clear river. The first two fishing days were unfortunately characterized by cloudy, somewhat wet weather and a higher water level. Nevertheless, catches were made on all four fishing days, including many beautiful trout and a few grayling caught on dries, and you just have to take it as it comes. The culinary side of things was not neglected, and Andy and his participants also had a great time in the evenings with baker Franz.

In September, Andy Pfirstinger set off for Big Sky Country again this year. This time, a father and his two sons had decided to book him for a private fly-fishing trip. In predominantly fantastic late summer weather, they enjoyed the magnificent scenery of the Rockies, abundant wildlife, and fishing on the Big Horn, Gallatin River and Slough Creek in Yellowstone National Park , among other places. Western flair and most tender rib-eye steaks - grilled by Andy right on the river - rounded out the Indian Summer experience once again.

In mid-July, we've been going to the Hotel Bräurup in Mittersill with Alpine Angler for almost a decade now. The mountains of the Hohe Tauern with their diverse salmonid waters, especially the high valley of the Krimmler Ache, are always a delightful experience. This time, Andy's participants were lucky enough to have excellent weather, with no rain and stable water levels. Everyone caught a lot of fish, especially with dry flies - no giants, but beautiful grayling, brookies, and brown trout. It was an all-around successful trip with great luck, as the Pinzgau region experienced weeks of bad weather with heavy rain just the day after our departure.

After years of extremely fluctuating water levels, Andy and his fellow travelers finally had the perfect time this year for their trip to the Traun River in Austria in mid-June. While the water level in the Theresiental of the famous Gmundner Traun section was as low as 1.40m on the first day of fishing, the 1.14m on the last day was more than ideal. The many catches, particularly with nymphs, were correspondingly excellent. However, everyone had a dry fly highlight on the Steyr River, which was on the agenda for the third day of fishing. A spinner fall that lasted for 1.5 hours late in the evening resulted in dozens of fights on fine tackle. A thoroughly successful fly fishing trip, which also featured excellent culinary delights in shady restaurant gardens.

At the end of May, we went fly fishing in South Tyrol once again. Andy's regular customers on this trip not only enjoyed four days of glorious weather in the magnificent Alpine panorama of the Dolomites, but also caught many beautiful fish. The culinary offerings were also plentiful, with fillet steak, freshly grilled "stinko," and Italian plata mista. Only on the Piave River did everyone fail to catch a single fish; unfortunately, there are hardly any fish left there, which is a real shame. Nevertheless, everyone wants to be back for the Olympics in Antholz next year, and training is already underway...

As announced upfront in fly fishing magazines, on Instagram and the Alpine Angler newsletter and web-site, Andy Pfirstinger hosted his 25th anniversary celebration at the Alpine Angler Fly Shop on May 17th. Visitors were treated with delicious snacks, free drinks, and homemade cake and coffee in the afternoon. A wheel of fortune was available with purchases, and Thomas Wölfle offered an interesting demonstration of his successful "Daydreamer" fly. Pleasant conversations in a relaxed atmosphere, along with mostly dry weather made the event a truly successful one for everyone in attendance.

Due to high demand, Andy Pfirstinger organized and hosted two trips to Slovenia this year, which took place cosecutive from April 22nd to May 4th. Predominantly dry weather, which became summery in the second week, and rivers that were gin clear except for the middle Soca, offered all participants very good conditions. This was taken advantage of, although quite a few large fish were released long-line on fine leaders. Fishing in Slovenia is extremely challenging due to the extremely high fishing pressure. But Andy and local guide Janez helped a lot to ensure that the finicky rainbow trout, marbels and hybrids took the presented dry flies and nymphs and later found themselves in the landing net. Everyone who took part enjoyed the beautiful nature of this country, the good food in a cozy atmosphere, and the great harmony within the respective groups.
