Douglas Outdoors is a comparatively young manufacturer and was founded in 2014 in New York State, USA. With the Sky G series - the top models from Douglas, the manufacturer has established itself in the fly fishing scene worldwide in just a short time, which is due to the outstanding rod blanks, the use of the highest quality components for guides, handle and reel seat as well as perfect craftmanship. In various "shootouts" done by American fly shops, the Sky G models take the top spots in ranking, which was one of the reasons for us to add this rod series to our range. Because we also love light, perfectly balanced, sensitive fly rods with the appropriate power reserves combined with top components and accurate workmanship. We cast and fish these rods ourselves and can only agree to the ranking results of the Yellowstone Angler or Trident Fly Fishing.

So no marketing gimmick in the saltwater fly rod category. The 9' #8 Douglas Sky G won the shootout for Best 8weight Saltwater Fly Rod. Now more 9 foot Sky G Saltwater models have been added, a #7weight and up to line class #11. The latest technology is also used for these blanks - which are of course much faster and stiffer for saltwater use than the Freshwater models. The distinguished Douglas Sky G blank construction leverages technology in its quest to achieve fly rod perfection. It's wonderfully lightweight and eminently castable, and the addition of revolutionary G-Tec platelets takes it over the top. Altogether, you'll find the Douglas SKY G Saltwater series offers superb dampening and recovery, near-effortless casting, accuracy, and outstanding durability. Innovative top-of-the-line components include: REC Titanium Cerecoil stripper guides with zirconia inserts, REC Titanium recoil guides, AAAA flor grade cork, a full anodized aluminum reel seat with double uplocking rings with nylon bushings and fighting butt.

The matte, platinum-colored blank of the Sky G Saltwater-Series is based on G-Tec graphite technology. The advantages of graphene mean extremely low weight with maximum durability. The combination of speed and sensitivity is particularly positive. The swing weight of the Douglas Sky G Saltwater rods is incredibly low, which means that you can cast without tiring all day long. Even large line lengths can be held in the air in a controlled manner without any effort. In tropical salt water, speed and precision are usually required when aiming and casting. No problem with these rods, extend the line 1 or 2 times and then fire off the fly, with these fast and yet sensitive streamer rods a real pleasure.

Our own conclusion: With all these properties, the Sky-G Saltwater models are perfect saltwater fly rods, but they are also ideal streamer rods in our latitudes in fresh water and in the Baltic Sea, regardless of whether you fish a river or lake for trout, sea trout (#6S + #7) and in the higher line classes for salmon up to pike and huchen. The low swing weight allows the combination with lighter reels. Less weight in your hand means less tiring while casting. Here you get high-end at best price!
